Careers at
Facepunch
We’re Facepunch. For over 20 years we’ve been growing to support the expansion of our games. It’s always been our intention to scale at a deliberate, steady pace, guided by our own goals, rather than market fluctuations. We don’t overhire when times are good, and we’ve never had to downsize when things get tough. It means that we have the right people in the right place so that we can continue to bring quality gameplay to our community.
We’re always on the lookout for talented and passionate people. If you’ve made it this far, check out our open positions below. Don’t see a role that fits? We’re happy to receive general applications too.
What you can expect working at Facepunch
-
Who we are
Facepunch is a mixture of people from across the world. Few people ever leave Facepunch, which is why so many of us have worked together for over a decade. Our growth has been slow and intentional, and not in response to market trends. You’ll also meet plenty of new faces who are just starting their journey here. This makes Facepunch a truly unique place to work, where you have legacy context and experience, blended with fresh perspectives and ideas.

How we work
We're a developer-led company with a culture of trust and self-management. We believe you get the best out of people when they have the freedom to own their work. We’re not going to breathe down your neck, but when you do need support, we're always here for you. This way of working lets you manage your time and approach in the way that gets the best out of you.
-
What we care about
We’re a games-first company, and always will be. We want to bring together curious, talented and passionate people who genuinely care about making quality gameplay and awesome experiences for our players. We figure out what’s best for the game as a team, and we work through the wins and fails together.
-
It’s not all work and no play
Between hack weeks and play days, we want our team to really know and understand the games they help to build. After every update we have a Rust play day, everyone downs tools for the day and jumps into Rust to play together. Hack weeks happen every quarter and offer a chance to experiment with something new or dive into a part of game development you don’t usually explore.
Our Benefits
Our benefits are simple: look after good people so they can make great things. Whether it’s time to recharge, room to create, or support when you need it, we’ve got you covered. Not every company benefit applies to our international employees or contractors, but we always do our best to offer perks of the same or similar value where we’re able to.

Team Stories
Whether you’re just starting out or have been with Facepunch for years, our people shape the company behind our games. This is how they've grown their careers, stayed for the culture, and why Facepunch feels like more than just another job in gaming.

I started my journey almost 13 years ago with Facepunch as a Receptionist. As the company grew and our location changed, we needed an Office Manager. I began taking on more responsibilities - supporting team projects, hosting company socials and helping with office operations. I loved it. I discovered that I really enjoyed managing people and processes, and with encouragement from my colleagues and managers, I started stepping into bigger projects like the office renovation. I now oversee daily operations and lead projects that keep our business running effectively. Looking back, I’m proud of how far I’ve come and grateful for the opportunities to learn, take initiative, and build a career doing something I love. There are no limits here at Facepunch as to what you can achieve.

Facepunch has allowed me to work on the things I feel the most passionate about during both my time working here and my time as a member of the community. I’ve always felt quite welcome, even when I was just a stranger… And that pushed me to learn and explore more and more every single day. Honing not just my programming skills, but all sorts of skills by interacting with people of different talents.

I joined Facepunch as a QA tester over a decade ago and now serve as COO and Executive Producer on Rust. Growing the studio and working alongside some of the best talent in the industry has been an incredible experience. It’s a great example of how much trust and opportunity Facepunch gives to people who want to take ownership and make things happen.

I have been at Facepunch for more than 12 years. It was my first job in the industry. I began as a junior character artist, unsure of many things. Throughout my time here, the team has provided me with everything I needed, they have allowed me the space and time to develop both as an artist and as a person. Currently, I am the Lead Weapon & Prop Artist, managing a talented team and working on an excellent game. After 12 years, you might wonder why I haven't jumped ship after all this time, but to me, Facepunch stands out as the world's top studio, with an unmatched culture, amazing colleagues, and genuine respect for artists that's increasingly rare. I fully plan to retire from the industry with Facepunch as the only studio I have ever worked for. Here’s to another 12 great years and beyond.

In the past two years at Facepunch, I’ve really seen how much the company values growth and development. Starting out as a Junior Graphic Designer, I was encouraged to learn, experiment, and push myself creatively. Thanks to the support of some incredibly talented mentors, I’ve had the chance to work on all kinds of projects and exciting creative opportunities. That journey has helped me grow into a Middleweight Designer — a milestone that reflects not just my own progress, but also Facepunch’s commitment to helping people reach their full potential. I’m genuinely so proud to be part of a team that invests in its talent and keeps pushing for growth.

Working at Facepunch has allowed me to grow and evolve my skillset, starting as a Programmer and now as Lead Gameplay Programmer overseeing a team of my peers. I’ve been well supported along the way, with regular opportunities to branch out and tackle problems that are new to me.
Jarryd - Lead Gameplay Programmer on Rust
The Hiring Process
We’re no frills and developer led, and that shows in our hiring process. You won’t be doing 8 rounds of tests and meeting 25 different people. We’re confident that we find the right people for the job from one interview and one offline assessment (role dependant).
The process below isn’t set in stone, it’s a general idea of what your journey with us could look like. We personalise each step to fit you and the role you’ve applied for.
-
Getting To Know You
As a remote-first team, we want to make sure we’re hiring people who are a good fit for us and the way we work, as well as Facepunch being a good fit for you.
This is an initial chat with a member of the People team to understand more about you, your motivations and interests, and for you to hear more about Facepunch.
-
Offline Assessment
Whether it’s a code or art test, we’ll give you the instructions you need to complete it and the ideal completion date.
We don’t want people labouring over a test for weeks on end, and we also know that people have lives, commitments and holidays, so if you need more time just let us know.
-
Meet The Team
If you’re successful from the offline assessment, we’ll arrange a time that works for everyone to chat with the hiring manager and other members of the team. Although it’s an interview, we’re an informal bunch so hopefully it’ll just feel like a conversation.
We’ll talk about your offline assessment, your background, and any key skills we’re looking for in the role. Your personal projects tell a story too, and we’d love to hear about anything you’ve worked on in your own time that shows what you can do. We’ll also share more about what to expect from Facepunch and the role itself.
-
Decision Time
You’ll hear from us either way.
If it’s good news and we’d like to offer you a job, we’ll communicate that to you and put you in touch with our People team. If it’s a no for now we’ll explain why.
